About the Mississauga Canoe Club
The MCC is a not for profit organization established in 1958. In that time, the MCC has provided the Mississauga community with high quality canoe and kayak programs for youth and adults. Our clubhouse is located on the west shore of the Credit River just north of Lake Ontario in the town of Port Credit. MCC’s excellence on the water is demonstrated by 19 Championship Burgees at the Annual Canadian Club Championships along with several Junior World, Senior World, and Olympic Team athletes who have represented Canada at the highest level.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement high-level training programs tailored to individual and team goals.
- Coach and mentor athletes in sprint kayaking technique, race strategy, and performance optimization.
- Organize and oversee daily practices, on-water drills, and conditioning sessions.
- Foster a supportive and motivating team environment, emphasizing fairplay and resilience.
- Develop and execute competition strategies, including race preparation and post-race analysis.
- Manage team logistics for events, including travel, accommodations, and equipment.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of athletes during training and competitions.
- Collaborate with the club’s coaching team on program development, athlete recruitment, and team building activities.
- Support club programs outside of the High Performance group (war canoe, pep rallies, home regatta, club team building events)
Qualifications/Certifications:
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- NCCP Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport Training
- NCCP Competition Development Part 2
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Pleasure Craft Operators Card
- Driver’s License and ability/experience to drive the Mississauga truck and boat trailer.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and develop athletes of varying skill levels.
- Availability to travel for competitions and events as required.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience working with High Performance and Developing athletes.
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles specific to High Performance kayaking.
- Familiarity with kayak boat and equipment maintenance and repair.
- Ability to work as a senior leader/mentor within a cooperative coaching team.
- Strong knowledge of kayaking technique, training methodologies, interpretation of selection criteria, and competition rules.
- Availability to travel for competitions and events as required.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and develop athletes of varying skill levels.
