SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Paddle All (Special Olympics) is a program introduced by Canoe Kayak Canada to promote paddling for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Recreational canoes and kayaks are used to introduce paddlers with intellectual and developmental disabilities to the sport of paddling. The program includes a safety orientation and technical instruction by experienced coaches. Each paddler will have an experienced paddling partner/coach for 1:2 support ratio. Paddlers must be comfortable on the water and be able to follow instructions, especially related to safety for themselves and others.


COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

The MCC Competitive Program will train twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm-7:00pm. This is a 12 week program starting the week of June 3, 2024. Participants will learn the basic skills of canoe/kayak by our qualified coaching staff and will complete workouts with the goal of racing in the summer. The Competitive Program is open to athletes who participated in the program in 2023 or for athletes with other prior experience (contact the Head Coach). The competitive program is limited to 8 participants.

PROGRAM COST: $400 + HST

RECREATIONAL PROGRAM

The MCC Recreational Program will meet once per week on Thursdays from 5:30pm-7:00pm. This is an 8 week program starting the week of July 1, 2024. Participants will receive instruction from our qualified coaching staff with a goal of learning basic canoe/kayak skills in a fun and enjoyable environment. No prior experience is necessary. The Recreational program is limited to 5 participants.

NOTE: There will be a Recreational Program parents only meeting on Thursday May 16 at 6:30pm at the MCC. Parents will be given an overview of the program, behavioral and safety expectations, volunteer opportunities, overview of the boats and equipment, and a Q and A with the program coaches. A ‘Try it Out’ Day will be offered to potential RECREATIONAL PROGRAM participants on Thursday June 13 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Mayor Crombie declared a State of Emergency for Mississauga on March 23rd to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. All facilities within the City’s 500+ parks are now closed which includes community tennis club courts and the recreation facilities owned by the City. All non-essential businesses are to close.
