About the Mississauga Canoe Club
The MCC is a not for profit organization established in 1958. In that time, the MCC has provided the Mississauga community with high quality canoe and kayak programs for youth and adults. Our clubhouse is located on the west shore of the Credit River just north of Lake Ontario in the town of Port Credit. MCC’s excellence on the water is demonstrated by 19 Championship Burgees at the Annual Canadian Club Championships along with several Junior World, Senior World, and Olympic Team athletes who have represented Canada at the highest level. Most recently, MCC’s Katie Vincent won a bronze medal at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Summary
The MCC is looking for enthusiastic, hard working, and reliable coaches! The Para Canoe and Special Olympics coaching opportunities are Part Time Summer positions working with our evening program in June, July and August. Please indicate in your cover letter which program you are applying for. Note that these programs do not conflict and you could coach in both programs.

Our Para Canoe and Special Olympics will work under the direction of our Program Leads and provide leadership and coaching for their assigned group. Duties to include delivery of the program for their assigned group, regatta duties as assigned, special events, and other tasks as assigned by the Program Lead and the Head Coach.
The successful candidate is well organized, assertive, hard-working, friendly, communicates well with parents, athletes, and coaches, and works well in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the execution of the program under the guidance of the Program Lead Coach
- Provide leadership that will ensure a fun, safe, and friendly atmosphere at the MCC
- Ensure that the MCC grounds, docks, and clubhouse are clean/tidy and safe for our members.
- Identify and report property and equipment needs and assist with minor repairs and maintenance to ensure effective program operation
- Ensure the safety of our members – supervise athletes and ensure compliance with MCC safety standards (wearing PFDs, monitoring and reporting athlete conduct, proper handling of boats and equipment, correct use of safety boats)
- Assist with the entry process for local and Provincial regattas
- Other duties assigned by the Program Lead and Head Coach
Certifications Required
- First Aid and CPR
- Pleasure Craft Operators License
- Police Check (or reference letter if under 18 years old)
Skills Required
- Excellent communication skills with athletes, parents, and coaches
- Experience working with young people in a volunteer or paid capacity with experiences in canoe/kayak settings an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work proactively within a team environment – recognize areas that you can contribute and follow through.
