The Driving Force Behind our Champions

Our coaches are the backbone of our club. Committed to helping members reach their personal paddling goals, these are the people who create excellence in athletes everyday. Whether they’re looking to improve basic boat skills, increasing general fitness or compete for Canada at Junior and Senior international events, our coaches are there to see them through to the end. We’re proud to present our amazing team of qualified coaches.

Head Coach

Doug Tutty

Doug Tutty began his paddling career at the Mississauga Canoe Club in 1978 and while training at the club won over 30 gold medals in the Canadian National Championships. Doug joined the MCC coaching ranks in 1990 and graduated from the National Coaching Institute at the University of Victoria in 1992. Doug has been training athletes for excellence for over 20 years, and was the Junior National Team head coach from 1993 to 1995

Helen Savin

With more than 30 years of experience coaching athletes at both the national and international level, Helen helps athletes achieve their goals with a keen focus on technical expertise. Helen began her paddling career in 1978 at the Dynamo Canoe Club (USSR) and went on to join the National USSR Team where she paddled at the national and international level. Her passion for the sport and formal education in coaching has led her to head the National Kazakhstan Women’s Team, Richmond Hill Canoe Club, Sudbury Canoe Club and most recently re-joining the Mississauga Canoe Club as High Performance Coach.

Tamas Buday Sr.

Tamas Buday Sr. is a four times World Champion, and two times Olympic medalist. He came to Canada from Hungary with his family in 1987, following an invitation from the Canadian National Team. He fulfilled the National Canoe Coach position for 25 years, until 2012, when he became a Mississauga Canoe Club coach. The recipient of four Canadian Coaching Excellence Awards, and a member of the Mississauga Sport Hall of Fame, he now enjoys the work he does with a new generation of future canoe champions.

Temporary Club Closure

Mandated by the City of Mississauga

Mayor Crombie declared a State of Emergency for Mississauga on March 23rd to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. All facilities within the City’s 500+ parks are now closed which includes community tennis club courts and the recreation facilities owned by the City. All non-essential businesses are to close.
