The MCC is a not for profit organization established in 1958. In that time, the MCC has provided the Mississauga community with high quality canoe and kayak programs for youth and adults. Our clubhouse is located on the west shore of the Credit River just north of Lake Ontario in the town of Port Credit. MCC’s excellence on the water is demonstrated by 19 Championship Burgees at the Annual Canadian Club Championships along with several Junior World, Senior World, and Olympic Team athletes who have represented Canada at the highest level. Most recently, MCC’s Katie Vincent won a gold and bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Facility Supervisor (2 Positions)

Job Summary

The Mississauga Canoe Club (MCC) is seeking two detail-oriented, proactive, and energetic Facility Supervisors to oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our multi-use facility. As the face of our club, the ideal candidates will take immense pride in our facility, ensuring it is always clean, organized, and secure. You will be responsible for maintaining our high standards of excellence, supporting our coaching staff, and ensuring that every athlete and visitor has a safe and welcoming environment.

At MCC, facility maintenance is a team effort. You will lead by example, demonstrating the care and organization we expect from our members and athletes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Facility Maintenance & Cleanliness

  • Proactive Upkeep: Maintain a "see something, do something" mindset. Proactively address maintenance needs including shoveling walkways, clearing snow, taking out garbage, unclogging toilets, and mopping floors if salt or water tracks are present.
  • Common Areas: Ensure the facility remains clean, neat, and tidy at all times.
  • Restocking: Monitor inventory levels for toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, and garbage bags. Coordinate with management (Doug) to ensure supplies are re-ordered in a timely manner.
  • Weekly Tasks: On Sundays, manage the full facility waste removal, including emptying all internal garbage cans, replacing bags, and moving large bins to the curb for collection.

2. Equipment & Room Management

  • Weight Room: Ensure all equipment is organized after use:
  • Hang bands and straps on squat rack pegs.
  • Return dumbbells to proper racks (upper rack is labeled).
  • Store kettlebells neatly on racks (tuck overflow under the rack).
  • Ensure whiteboards are erased using the designated spray.
  • Organize plates on appropriate trees (steel plates on bench press/storage tree; bumper plates on storage tree).
  • Hang ropes clear of the floor.
  • Store Med Balls, Slam Balls, and Sandbags on storage racks.
  • Return safety bars to squat racks if removed.
  • Erg Room & Office:
  • Organize Ergs (bikes at the front, row/ski ergs and one kayak erg behind the bikes).
  • Return speakers to the office.
  • Ensure the office is fully closed and locked after every shift.
  • Paddle Pool:
  • Organize equipment: Hang kayak seats in the closet, align dragon boat seats against the wall, and store paddles in designated spots.
  • Chemical Safety: Strictly do not add chlorine or chemicals to the pool. Report any cloudiness or water quality concerns to management immediately.

3. Dragon Boat Rentals

  • Access & Security: Ensure that all dragon boats are unlocked prior to practices and properly locked up upon completion.
  • Prep & Cleanup: Boats must be bailed out before practice begins.
  • Equipment Care: Ensure all paddles and PFDs are neatly put away in their proper locations after practice.
  • Storage Security: The Sea Container storage unit must be checked and locked securely after every practice.
  • Maintenance Reporting: Report any broken seats or equipment issues to Management immediately.

4. Supervision & Security

  • Member Relations: Be visible and approachable during your shift. Greet incoming teams and maintain a helpful presence.
  • Policy Enforcement: Ensure all members/visitors remove outdoor footwear upon entry (winter)
  • End-of-Shift Procedures:
  • Conduct a final walkthrough of the entire facility, including areas not used by your specific group.
  • Tidy both change rooms (remove trash, move items to the "Lost and Found").
  • Security Lock-up: Check and secure all entry points, including: 2x double balcony doors, the small balcony door, the upper weight room door, and the door beside the paddle pool.
  • Set the facility alarm.
  • Ensure the front door is fully engaged and locked by pulling it firmly once outside.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory Certification: Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
  • Reliability: You are a key holder and responsible for the security of the facility. Punctuality and diligence are non-negotiable.
  • Proactive Mindset: You do not wait to be asked; you identify what needs to be done and take initiative to improve the facility.
  • Physical Stamina: Capable of performing physical tasks such as mopping, shoveling, lifting/stacking gym equipment, and moving waste bins.
  • Communication Skills: Able to clearly communicate club policies (e.g., footwear rules) to members and visitors and report maintenance needs to management effectively.

Working Conditions

  • This role requires regular physical activity and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts (including Sundays) as required for facility supervision.
  • Must be comfortable working independently to ensure all security and cleaning protocols are met before leaving the premises.

Youth Racing (U14) Program Lead Coach

The Role: Lead & Inspire

As the YRP Lead Coach, you are the bridge between foundational skills and competitive excellence. You will report to the Head Coach and work in lockstep with the YRP Coordinator to mentor both staff and athletes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership: Manage YRP staff to deliver high-quality daily practices; oversee practice planning for the entire U14 cohort.
  • Safety & Stewardship: Maintain a "safety-first" culture (PFD compliance, safety boat operation) and ensure MCC grounds and equipment are kept in championship-ready condition.
  • Regatta Coordination: Lead the logistics for local and Provincial regattas, including entry processes and the coordination of trailer loading/equipment transport.
  • Culture Building: Foster a safe, inclusive, and "fun-first" atmosphere that keeps young athletes engaged and motivated.
  • Maintenance: Proactively identify equipment needs and assist with minor repairs to ensure zero downtime for the program.

 What You Bring

You are a proactive communicator who can talk strategy with coaches, progress with parents, and technique with 10-14-year-olds.

Required Certifications

  • NCCP: Competition Introduction (ELCC), Making Ethical Decisions, and CKC Safe Sport Certification.
  • Safety: Current First Aid & CPR, Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card (PCOC).
  • Clearance: Current Police Check.

Core Skills

  • Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead a staff of coaches and manage group dynamics.

The Role: Support & Execute

As an Assistant Coach, you are on the front lines of athlete development. You will work directly under the YRP Coordinator and YRP Lead Coach to ensure practices run smoothly, athletes stay engaged, and the "MCC Spirit" remains high.

Key Responsibilities

  • On-Water Instruction: Assist in delivering daily training sessions, providing technical feedback to U14 athletes to improve their paddling skills.
  • Athlete Safety: Actively monitor athletes on and off the water; operate safety boats and ensure all safety protocols (PFDs, weather monitoring) are strictly followed.
  • Equipment Care: Assist with the daily setup and take-down of equipment, boat adjustments, and ensuring the "boathouse pride" by keeping the clubhouse and docks tidy.
  • Regatta Support: Travel to local and Provincial regattas to assist with athlete warm-ups, race preparation, boat handling, leading C15s on the water, and trailer loading/unloading.
  • Team Energy: Be a positive role model! Help create a fun, inclusive environment where kids feel confident and excited to compete.

Required Certifications

MCC Next Gen Coaching Academy

Investing in the Future of Paddling Excellence

The Mississauga Canoe Club (MCC) is proud to announce the launch of the MCC Next Generation Coaching Academy. This initiative is designed to identify, mentor, and equip our most promising young leaders with the skills and professional development required to become elite coaches in the paddling community.

Program Overview

The Academy provides a structured pathway for young coaches to transition from athletes to coaches. Enrollment is limited, ensuring that participants receive high-level, individualized attention.

  • Mentorship: PD sessions are led by MCC Senior Coaching staff and featured guest speakers from the broader paddling community.
  • Schedule: Sessions will occur approximately every two weeks, beginning in April 2026.
  • Professional Development: Exclusive access to workshops focused on MCC best practices, athlete safety, and technical coaching modules.
  • Perks: Accepted coaches will receive specialized MCC Coaching Academy clothing apparel, financial assistance with course work and first aid, meals during PD sessions, and essential equipment to kickstart their coaching career.

Eligibility Requirements

To maintain a high standard of mentorship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Born in 2008, 2009, or 2010.
  • Experience: A proven track record of coaching and/or volunteering at the MCC
  • Commitment: A passion for the sport and a desire to uphold the MCC’s legacy of excellence.
  • First Aid Training: Coaches must have current First Aid and CPR/AED Level C
  • Pleasure Craft Operators License
  • Competition Introduction Coaching Course: Partially / Fully certified or proof of enrollment for Spring 2026 course. CKO Comp Intro Course
  • CKC SafeSport Level 2

Summer Camp Counsellor

Summary

The MCC is looking for enthusiastic, hard working, and reliable summer camp counsellors! The Summer Camp Counsellor is a Full Time Summer position working with our Full Day Summer Camp Program in July and August. There will be a limited number of part time positions (depending on camper enrollment). Be sure to indicate your preference of Full or Part Time employment in your application (cover letter).

The Summer Camp Counsellor will work under the guidance of the Summer Camp Program Lead and provide leadership and coaching for their assigned group. Duties to include delivery of the daily and weekly program for their assigned group, special events, and other tasks as assigned by the Summer Camp Lead and the Head Coach. 

The successful candidate is well organized, assertive, hard-working, friendly, communicates well with parents, campers, and coaches, and works well in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the execution of the program under the guidance of the Summer Camp Coordinator
  • Provide leadership that will ensure a fun, safe, and friendly atmosphere at the MCC
  • Ensure that the MCC grounds, docks, and clubhouse are clean/tidy and safe for our members. 
  • Identify and report property and equipment needs and assist with minor repairs and maintenance to ensure effective program operation
  • Ensure the safety of our members – supervise campers and ensure compliance with MCC safety standards (wearing PFDs, monitoring and reporting athlete conduct, proper handling of boats and equipment, correct use of safety boats)
  • Other duties assigned by the Summer Camp Coordinator and Head Coach

Certifications Required

  • NCCP Community Coach (Canoe Kids)
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Pleasure Craft Operators License 
  • Police Check (or reference letter if under 18 years old)

Skills Required

  • Excellent communication skills with campers, parents, and coaches
  • Experience working with young people in a volunteer or paid capacity with experiences in canoe/kayak settings an asset. 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Ability to work proactively within a team environment – recognize areas that you can contribute and follow through.
